IMPROVING THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP
Prioritize student achievement, by focusing on hiring and retaining qualified staff that are passionate about serving students. Use data science to strengthen core curriculum standards to support all students; with an emphasis on at-risk individuals, English learners, and Special Education students. Be ingrained in the local community to established meaningful partnerships between parents, teachers, staff, and leadership to create a collaborative effort to support student achievement at all grade levels.
EQUITY
Implement various programs that encourage college readiness and trade-specific career pathways to ensure that all students have access to fair and practical opportunities for learning and personal growth. Expand STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) education by providing new and exciting resources at the elementary level, such as an introduction to coding class; intermediate coding and robotics courses at the middle school level; and AP computer science, robotics, and rocketry courses at high schools through the STAR Academy. College isn't the only option after graduation, expanding additional career technical (trade-specific) programs with the Mission Valley ROP for students looking for hands-on experience in various fields, including health care, manufacturing, and hospitality is a priority. Expand the Ohlone College Connections program, which allows high school seniors to get a head start and earn community college credits and transferable credits to a four-year university. Continue support for both mental and physical health for students and staff by promoting a social, emotional curriculum and ensuring access to healthy food options and physical education.
COMMUNICATION & ACCOUNTABILITY
Implement policies that drive open and transparent communication to re-establish trust and build lasting relationships between staff, administration, and the community. With standard operating procedures to hold the school board, families, and students accountable, pathways to academic and personal success are clearly laid out for everyone involved and provide open channels for collaboration to ensure that academic achievement is seen as a collective effort.
